Coronavirus Update- Leader in Vaccinating 75 and Up, Hospital Capacity, Cold Weather, NRVT Reminders, Vaccine & Case Data

January 28ᵗʰ –Today, CT DPH reported vaccination rates as of January 26ᵗʰ. I am very happy to share Wilton is first in Fairfield County and second in the state for the percentage of those 75 and up who have received the vaccine. 62.3% of Wilton’s 1,235 residents aged 75 and up have been vaccinated. Only Bozrah, which has an aged 75 and up population of 178, is higher at 66.3%. This is an indicator of our proactive approach, the great work of Wilton’s vaccine team and residents’
enthusiasm for the vaccine. Rates for abutting towns are as follows: Westport: 34.1%, Weston 41.3%, New Canaan 39.4%, Ridgefield. 56.7%, Norwalk. 24.5%.

The following are the 7-day average rates for area hospitals as of yesterday:

Governor Lamont activated Connecticut’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol through Monday. United Way 2-1-1 operates as the point of contact for residents who need shelter and transportation to shelters. Town personnel are monitoring conditions.

We have received numerous calls about the unusually high absence of masks on the NRVT. Please wear a mask, as required. Even if you have received the vaccine, the vaccine only protects you, it does not prevent you from spreading the virus.

Vaccine and Case Date:

Connecticut continues to be a national leader with the 4ᵗʰ highest rate of administered vaccines per 100,000 residents. 577,625 vaccines have been shipped to Connecticut, of which 70% were administered as of this morning. Of those administered, 81.6% were first doses.

The following is data, as of 8:30 p.m. last night, from today’s CT DPH report versus Wednesday’s January 26th report, as the following reflects two days of activity.

o Wilton: 9 new cases reported. 806 cases pandemic-to-day (PTD). There were 77 new cases since last Friday’s report
o Statewide: 2,684 new cases. 3.59% of the 74,762 new tests reported were positive. 250,023 cases PTD
o Fairfield County: 610 new cases. 72,026 cases PTD
o Hospitalized Patients: Statewide, 985 with a 31-net patient decrease. Fairfield County, 253 with a 3-net patient increase. Unfortunately the statewide increase in deaths outpaced the corresponding net decrease in hospitalizations by 2 to 1
o Deaths: Statewide, 7,046 with 70 new deaths. Fairfield County, 1,932 with 15 new deaths. Wilton, 47, no new death.

The following chart shows the distribution of known cases by age for previous periods and the current 7-day period ended February 1st.

With the recent outbreaks, please exercise extra caution and behave as if you have the virus and as if those around you do as well.
