Waveny LifeCare Network CNA Training Program

In 2022, Waveny LifeCare Network, thanks to the generous support of a private donor, established The Kathleen M. Fruin, RN Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) Training School within the Waveny LifeCare Network continuum.

This state-accredited program addresses the growing demand for high-quality, compassionate frontline healthcare workers while removing financial barriers to education through an “earn-to-learn” model. Students are paid as employees from day one, and Waveny covers all tuition and related costs, including program materials, uniforms, and licensure exams. Upon certification, graduates are offered a permanent CNA position within Waveny LifeCare Network.

The CNA school is located on Waveny’s main campus at 3 Farm Road, New Canaan, and partners with Northeast Medical Institute to deliver training. The certification process includes:

  • Four weeks of classroom instruction focused on theory and skills.
  • Up to six weeks of clinical mentorship within Waveny’s continuum of healthcare services. Each student is paired with an experienced CNA to support their transition into a dynamic healthcare environment.

What Sets Waveny’s CNA Program Apart?

  1. Financial Support: Waveny’s “earn-to-learn” model eliminates financial barriers by covering tuition and related costs while allowing students to earn income during training.
  2. Comprehensive Training & Organizational Support: Students receive classroom instruction followed by mentorship in skilled nursing, acute rehab, and assisted living. Classroom sessions include in-services from departments such as dietary, therapeutic recreation, nursing, volunteer services, and home care. Students also receive a personal welcome from our President & CEO.
  3. Mentorship-Driven Approach: During mentorship, students work alongside tenured CNAs and receive individualized support from an experienced RN manager. Training also includes guidance on time management, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
  4. Exam Preparation: To prepare for the Connecticut CNA exam, students practice test-taking strategies, complete multiple-choice exams, and participate in simulated skills assessments in a realistic test environment.
  5. Additional Support: Students are introduced to Norwalk Community Health Center for primary care, behavioral health, and family care needs—helping them stay healthy and focused throughout the program.
