VolunteerSquare Spotlights Waveny Volunteer, Melanie Turner
Posted on July 16, 2015
VolunteerSquare, an independent agency that strives to connect local non-profits with volunteers, has spotlighted Waveny volunteer, Melanie Turner, who recently inspired Darien High School's 2015 graduating class with her salutatorian address, relaying words of wisdom imparted by Waveny's residents. Read more about Melanie's personal Waveny experience here on her heartfelt guest blog.
"Disneyland is a happy place. Visitors do leave their troubles at the door, and for a short time, they do feel truly happy. However, vacation is temporary; when guests exit the park, their troubles are waiting for them. By contrast, the troubles I leave at Waveny’s door never seem to stick around. I come out not having only been distracted, but having gained new perspective. Having observed the residents’ sincere optimism in the midst of dire circumstances renders my daily struggles no longer significant. The happiness at Waveny spreads into my life and into the community in an ongoing way. It has been my blessing and privilege to volunteer at Waveny, a network of truly loving hearts."
