New Canaan – Waveny Care Network will hold its ninth annual ‘Swinging for Seniors’ golf and tennis outing at the Country Club of New Canaan on Monday, May 23, 2011. All proceeds raised through this annual event fund Waveny's financial assistance program, which benefits patients and residents who cannot afford the full cost of care at Waveny Care Center, The Village at Waveny Care Center and New Canaan Inn.
Event committee members are already hard at work recruiting golf and tennis players, soliciting sponsors, and collecting exciting raffle prize donations from local businesses. “As has been true for the past few years, continuing the tradition of our annual fundraiser is more critical than ever,” said Alice Parker, tennis co-chair. “There continues to be a greater need for resident and patient financial assistance due to the challenging economic climate.”
"This event is a unique opportunity for members of our community to participate either as a player, sponsor or contributor in providing financial support to one of the finest healthcare providers in Connecticut," stated Jim Slattery, golf co-chair. “We encourage businesses and residents from everywhere to take part in this very special cause, which ultimately helps those within our community. Our outing features numerous sponsorship levels opportunities, a variety of raffle activities, exciting hole-in-one prizes, and a putting contest.”
One of the only local golf outings to also include a tennis component, ‘Swinging for Seniors’ features both a morning and afternoon tennis round-robin. Because it was so successful
and popular last year, the afternoon tennis round robin winners will participate in a
“play-against-the-pros” bonus round. The ‘Swinging for Seniors’ outing will begin with registration, a morning tennis round robin and lunch, followed by a golf shotgun start and
second tennis round robin in the afternoon. The event concludes with a gourmet reception that will feature an awards ceremony and raffle drawings.
