Doris is asked to join the dancers for their final bows and performs an impeccable "révérence." This elaborate curtsey is performed to acknowledge the applause of the audience. Fittingly, it is also done at the end of a ballet class to show the respectful admiration of the pupils for their teacher.

With the help of an NEDT student, Doris helps to demonstrate the proper form and technique for an Arabesque.

New Canaan – The New England Dance Theatre (NEDT) honored its founder, dancer Doris Driver, with a sensational dance program at The Village at Waveny Care Center – Waveny’s unique assisted living residence in New Canaan, Connecticut – where Doris now resides.

Renowned for her work as a professional dancer, Ms. Driver founded the New England Academy of Dance in New Canaan in 1968, served as president of the board of directors and nurtured the school’s growth and reputation for providing excellence in dance training.

Her extensive professional dance career included performing in Radio City Music Hall’s Corps de Ballet and as a dancer in the long-running Broadway musical “Kiss Me Kate.”

Throughout her career, she performed in every major city in the nation, often working for three to six months in larger cities like San Francisco and Chicago.

The NEDT Company includes 25 advanced ballet students who are a part of the prestigious New England Academy of Dance in New Canaan. Each student has auditioned for placement in the Company, which annually presents lecture demonstrations to various community groups, educating audiences on the artistry and discipline of ballet while displaying their passion for dance.
