Collaboration between The Fairfield County Community Foundation, New Canaan Community Foundation (NCCF), the donor-advised Barbara Benton Davis Fund, and the Rangeley Capital Community Fund at the New Canaan Community Foundation recently resulted in a $25,000 grant to Waveny LifeCare Network to support the scholarship program for participants of Waveny’s Adult Day Program. The Adult Day Program at Waveny is dedicated to improving the quality of life for older adults from all areas who are still living at home, but who may require personal assistance, medical monitoring or more social interaction throughout the day. Benefitting just as much as participants are family caregivers who can regain the personal time they need to work, run a family household or simply relax.
A key facilitator of the grant process was Louise B. Goodridge, Waveny Development Committee member. “Thanks to the generosity of local organizations like these, Waveny is able to consistently deliver the highest quality of care to the people it serves,” said Goodridge.
Many of the families that rely upon partial funding and entitlements to afford the cost of adult day care have been directly affected by the shrinking availability of financial subsidization options over the past three years. More recently, the Veterans Administration also cut back on their funding such that that they will now generally only fund one day of adult day care per week.
“The Barbara Benton Davis Fund at the Fairfield County Community Foundation is pleased to support the Adult Day Program once again,” said Karen Brown, Vice President of Programs at the Foundation. “Philanthropy plays an important role in ensuring that all seniors, regardless of ability to pay, can access this important community program. Adult day programs such as Waveny’s play an important role in maintaining our seniors’ quality of life in Fairfield County.” Waveny’s program serves seniors throughout lower Fairfield County and offers transportation to and from New Canaan, Darien, Wilton, Norwalk and Stamford.
Grants from the New Canaan Community Foundation support a wide range of services for local residents, from the youngest to the oldest. “Community-based programs for the elderly are an essential component of a local continuum of care,” said Cynthia Gorey, Executive Director of New Canaan Community Foundation. “Accessible, high quality adult day care is an important resource for families in our area.”
The mission of the Rangeley Capital Community Fund is to support education and health initiatives, particularly in the New Canaan area. “The Waveny Adult Day Program plays such a critical role in our New Canaan community,” Said Rob Sterner of Rangeley Capital. “All of us at the Rangeley Capital Community Fund are so pleased to be able to support the program once again this year.”
