New Canaan – Waveny Care Network was recently awarded a generous grant from The Fairfield County Community Foundation and the Barbara Benton Davis Fund, a donor advised fund at The Foundation, for the purpose of supporting the scholarship program for participants of Waveny’s Adult Day Program. The Adult Day Program at Waveny Care Center is dedicated to improving the quality of life for older adults who are still living at home, but who may require personal assistance and medical monitoring throughout the day and/or more social interaction. Benefitting just as much as the participants are family caregivers who can regain the personal time they need to work, run a family household or simply relax.
Many of the families that rely upon partial funding and entitlements to afford the cost of adult day care have been directly affected by the shrinking availability of financial subsidization options over the past two years. More recently, the Veterans Administration also cut-back on their funding to the point that they will generally only fund one day of adult day care per week.
A key facilitator of the grant process was Louise B. Goodridge, Waveny Development Committee member and last year’s Donor Recognition special honoree. “Thanks to the generosity of organizations like the Fairfield County Community Foundation and the Barbara Benton Davis Fund, Waveny is able to continue to consistently deliver the highest quality of care to the people it serves,” said Goodridge.
“Decreased availability in funding has forced many of our regular adult day clients and families to cut back on the number of days they attend our program, which dramatically impacts their lives,” said Heather Neff, CEO of Waveny Care Network. “Monies from this grant will be used specifically for our long-term participants who have financially needed to reduce their normal schedule in the program to enable them to continue using our services and attend the same number of days per week as they have in the past - especially our veterans."
“The Fairfield County Community Foundation is pleased to support Waveny Care Network’s Adult Day Program,” said Karen R. Brown, Vice President of Program at the Foundation. “Families with financial need rely on Waveny’s exemplary Adult Day Care Program to provide their loved ones with the social interaction and medical care that help to improve their quality of life.”
