New Britain, Conn. – New Canaan Inn, Waveny Care Network’s independent living community, was one of 20 businesses and organizations in southwestern Connecticut honored by the State of Connecticut for their individual energy-saving efforts that substantially reduced the area’s peak electricity demand and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions last summer.
The recipients of the seventh annual Summer Savers Awards were recognized in a formal ceremony at the State Capitol April 30, hosted by officials of the Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control, the Department of Environmental Protection and the Office of Policy and Management. Their combined efforts were credited with saving more than 960,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity, reducing peak demand by more than 8,440 kilowatts, and reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 480 tons – the equivalent of taking 93 passenger cars off the road.
