It was a special day for Louise Shea at Waveny LifeCare Center as she reached a milestone that no one else has reached there in over a decade. On Friday Nov. 2, she sat among balloons to receive gifts, share a cake and open some of her 103 cards, one for each year she has lived.
Shea has enjoyed a lifelong love of art. She recalled walking to the Metropolitan Museum of Art as a child with her drawing pad. “I had a ball,” she said.
Much later in life, at 100 years old, she visited the Rodin Museum in Paris.

She still paints in her studio that was set up for her in the therapy room at Waveny. Many of her paintings — mostly subjects in nature — were displayed on the bulletin board in the hallway.
When someone asked her, “How does it feel to be 103,” she replied, “same as 102.”
Next to her art on the bulletin board were also pictures of her when she worked as a model.

She told the 30 people who gathered around to share cake: “I am very lucky to have such nice friends and family.”
Kristin Sinatra, vice president / marketing, said she has worked at Waveny for 14 years and this is the first time she remembers celebrating someone reaching this milestone.
