DO YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW NEED HELP AT MEALTIME?
Meals-On-Wheels of New Canaan is a non-profit community service dedicated to providing nutritious meals to any resident of New Canaan so that they may continue to live independently and maintain their own households.

WHO MAY RECEIVE MEALS-ON-WHEELS?
Any person in New Canaan who needs this service on a short or long-term basis, regardless of age or income, including anyone:

  • Who is unable to prepare or obtain adequate nutritious meals for themselves
  • Who is recovering from illness or recent surgery
  • Who has a temporary or permanent disability
  • Who has special dietary needs
  • Whose family is not available to help

WHAT TYPES OF MEALS ARE AVALABLE?
Hot and cold meals are prepared by a professional chef and the Waveny Care Center's Dietary Department staff. Diets available include:

  • Regular
  • No added Salt
  • No Concentrated Sweets (for diabetes and/or calorie restricted diets)


  • HOW MUCH DO MEALS COST?
    There is a daily charge for the meails, which is kept as low as possible. A Benevolent Fund is available to help those unable to pay the full cost themselves.


    WHEN ARE THE MEALS DELIVERED?
    Meals are delivered around noon, Monday through Friday including holidays, by volunteers from the community, various churches and civic organizations. Anyone in the community who would like to volunteer to deliver meals is encouraged to call the Meals-On-Wheels office at 594-5318.


    HOW DOES SOMEONE SIGN UP FOR MEALS-ON-WHEELS?
    Recipients may be referred by:

  • Hospital
  • Nursing home
  • Social service departments
  • Physicians
  • Visiting Nurse Association
  • Other community service agencies
  • Calls from relatives and friends
  • Individuals themselves.
